Burns & McDonnell Senior Structural Engineer - Pipelines (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
The Senior Structural Engineer will lead design project teams to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects including pipelines, facilities, LNG facilities, RNG facilities, gas storage plants and compressor stations. The Senior Structural Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting structural plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.
Lead civil and structural design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
Prepare structural bid packages: Construction specifications and subcontract packages, shop fabricated structural steel packages, Request's for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Review vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers
Participate in the development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.
Applies expert knowledge of commonly used structural concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the structural engineering services industry. Compiles studies and reports. Writes specifications.
Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find/develops non-standard design solutions.
Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project-related data as required by the project managers to verify design compliance with project, client, and industry standards, including constructability.
Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of materials.
Lead field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.
Participate sales and marketing efforts and identify, lead and manage key pursuits.
Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Prepare, present and manage project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the structural engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.
Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
All other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited program with an emphasis in structural engineering.
Minimum 7 years structural experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience). Field experience is highly desirable.
Registration as a Professional Engineer.
Advanced understanding, proficiency and mastery of software including RISA 3D, RISA Foundation.
Strong computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), MathCADD.
Experience in structural engineering related to large/critical rotation equipment in processor power generating facilities is preferred.
Knowledge and proficiency in utilizing laser scan data, including use of LFM software is preferred.
Advanced knowledge in design, calculations, and design systems.
Advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of structural discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of skillfully operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
Experience with leading the structural design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, Detailers, Designers, and other offices) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate to accomplish objectives.
Excellent written & verbal communication, teamwork, and interdisciplinary coordination skills.
This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
Capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
Must be flexible and willing to learn new skills as required to support projects.
Must be able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously and have excellent time management skills.
Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
EPC experience is preferred.
