Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer - Kansas City in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

  • Plan and provide engineering, construction, testing & commissioning support for substation projects.

  • Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design for the projects.

  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client and others as needed.

  • Coordinate departmental or divisional project studies, reports, or project design assignments.

  • Coordinate and perform project studies and associated report preparation.

  • Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA and protection and controls engineers to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems.

  • Responsible for performing power system studies and system protection settings coordination on various projects ranging from 69-kV to 345-kV.

  • Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and generate native relay configuration files.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff members.

  • Up to 10% of travel.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field plus five (5) years of experience in substation design. Requires successful completion of FE exam.

  • Must have minimum of 2 years of experience in each of the following:

  • Providing engineering for the design of (greenfield and brownfield) substation facilities for voltages from 69-kV up to and including 345-kV.

  • Experience with multiple electric utility standard techniques, procedures and criteria utilizing NESC, ANSI, and NFPA standards.

  • Performing substation protection and control design, engineering analysis and supporting calculations (voltage drop, conduit fill, battery sizing, SSVT sizing).

  • Preparing new and modifying existing relay drawings including single lines, three lines, AC & DC schematics, equipment wiring, relay and controlpanel arrangements and wiring diagrams.

  • Preparing new and modifying existing SCADA, fiber-optic, and relay communication drawings.

  • Preparing new and modifying existing grounding, conduit, and cable routing plans.

  • Preparing new and modifying existing Bill of Material (SOM), SCADA points, and Cable lists.

  • Reviewing vendor submittals for conformance to specifications.

  • Protection and Controls Engineering and Design for substation upgrades (line relaying upgrades, bus relaying upgrades, transformer relaying upgrades, circuit breaker replacements, transformer replacements , SCADA upgrades).

  • Must have minimum of 6 months of experience in the following:

  • Performing Grounding, Arc Flash, Short Circuit, and Power System Studies.

  • Will accept a Master’s degree plus four (4) years of experience in substation design in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus five (5) years of experience in substation design. Up to 10% of travel.

40 hours/week. 9am - 5pm.
