Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer in Kansas City, Missouri
Staff Electrical Engineer - Kansas City, MO (multiple positions): Plan and provide engineering, construction, testing & commissioning support for substation projects ranging from 12kV-345kV. Assist project manager to develop scope of work and conceptual design for the projects. Communicate and coordinate project activities with project manager, client and others as needed. Design auxiliary AC and DC power systems. Coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments. Coordinate with and provide technical assistance to SCADA engineers, substation physical engineers and control design staff in order to fully develop system integration of protection, control and monitoring systems. Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Five years of experience in protection and control of power systems to include:
Review of Client's Project documents including Scope of Work and Project Specification.
Managing engineering activities for budget, schedule and quality.
Electrical system modeling, relay coordination, short circuit studies, setting microprocessor based relays and field commissioning of electrical systems.
Create/modify one-lines, three-lines, control schematics, wiring, panel arrangements, trench & tray design, cable schedule and routing for electrical substations.
Create/modify technical specifications for major equipment, such power transformers, circuit breakers, control house, panels, and electrical bill of material.
Perform basic calculations such as voltage drop, grounding & lightning, CT burden and saturation, lighting and short circuit.
Develop Communication & RTU design for the substation.
FAT and SAT acceptance tests.
PE License required.
In lieu of a Bachelor's plus 5 years of experience, a Master's degree plus 3 years of experience and licensure is acceptable.
