Description

Staff Electrical Specialist to join our growing team in the Oil, Gas, & Chemical division. The Staff Electrical Specialist will assist in various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, report preparation, specifications, and preparation of proposal and construction documentation and electrical plans as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients in the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industry.

  • Apply design codes and specifications such as API, NFPA 70, 70E, NEMA, PIP, and other industry standards to design electrical systems.

  • Evaluate client requirements and author clarifications and exceptions to RFPs, design basis documents, project execution plans and electrical scopes of work.

  • Design of 15kV, 5kV, 480V and below voltage systems, one lines, motor schematics, plans and elevations, installation details, drawing lists, cable sizing, and other basic electrical calculations.

  • Specify lighting transformers, panelboards, switchboards, MCCs, and other small power equipment and material. Follow all company, client and project design and drafting standards.

  • Full range of drawing production work including problem analysis, design layout and calculations on non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity.

  • Conceptual designs or sketches and redlines or mark-ups on ongoing projects.

  • Assist with analyzing reports, drawings, and tests, to plan and design projects.

  • Complete and review design drawings within scope, budget and schedule. Perform project tasks and assignments within budgeted hours and deadlines.

  • Travel to the project site during design and construction to gather data and answer questions.

  • Work with and help coordinate design efforts of Burns & McDonnell’s India office.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical power technology with 5 years of experience in the oil, gas, or chemical industry, FE/EIT preferred.

  • Or related degree with 8 years of experience in the oil, gas, or chemical industry working as an electrical technician or electrical designer.

  • Must be willing to travel to the job site and meet with clients and construction personnel to scope the project and answer construction problems.

  • Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

  • Good knowledge of the NEC, Industrial Construction, and Industrial Facility Safety.

  • Experience with design software such as: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Smart Plant and Excel to develop the design deliverables. Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.

  • Ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings. Strong preference for experience in SmartPlant Electrical, SmartPlant 3D, and Navisworks.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers, and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

  • Strong written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
