Burns & McDonnell Staff Project Controls Specialist - Cost (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Staff Project Controls Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the successful execution of Oil and Gas projects. This role involves monitoring, analyzing, and controlling project costs, change management, schedules, and performance to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.   

  • Support the estimate and budget development for EPC projects

  • Ensure project set up in Enterprise Planning & Controls software

  • Coordinate the setup of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for proper progress tracking.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain external and internal cost reports, cash flows and forecasts.

  • Review schedule, earned value management, and other tools to properly forecast cost.

  • Communicate with project management and project accounting teams for correct invoicing.

  • Analyze project controls reports, present findings and provide recommendations to the project controls team.

  • Create and Analyze data using Microsoft Excel, PowerBI and other reporting tools.

  • Track budgets, committed costs, and forecast for Purchase Orders and Subcontracts.

  • Review upstream (prime contract) and downstream (purchase order & subcontract) contracts and change orders.

  • Participate in the change management process and maintain current budgets in internal and external reporting.

  • Lead cost forecasting reviews with engineering leads and project management on a regular cadence to update project forecasts.

  • Report key performance metrics to internal and external management.

  • Serves as a point of contact for technical questions from APM's, PM's, Lead Engineers, or Construction staff.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field. Applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

  • A minimum of 3 years of direct project controls experience.

  • Ability to work independently, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with Oracle Primavera P6.

  • May be required to obtain an OSHA 10 hour safety certification.
