Burns & McDonnell Staff Project Specialist (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri


The Staff Project Specialist executes project, financial health and project scheduling functions for engineering related projects. This position coordinates with internal project management to provide solutions in the execution of project needs within the budget and schedule.

  • Initiate the set-up of projects in applicable cost management system.

  • Analyzes and monitors project health in the internal cost management system and compiles report findings.

  • Performs project scheduling activities and deliverables.

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the budget tracking system and reporting project status.

  • Processes project change orders.

  • Processes changes to cost reports.

  • Creates monthly project analysis reports.

  • Responsible for entering project scheduling information.

  • Performs quality assurance on data and information for the project financial deliverables.

  • Executes Work Breakdown Structure for tracking the breakdown of purchase orders and subcontracts.

  • Responsible for organizing and maintaining project files and client deliverables and project communications.

  • Performs data entry review on projects.

  • All other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related degree required.

  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience.

  • Experience with one or more cost management systems required.

  • Ability to work independently, think creatively and analytically, and make quick and sound decisions.

  • Excellent problem solving skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with all levels within an organization.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint is required.


  • Sitting, Standing, Walking, Talking, Hearing, Grasping, Fine Manipulation, Lifting up to 20 lbs.


  • Requires ability to adapt, analyze, assess, calculate, make decisions, dependable, exercise good judgment, organize, prioritize, read, memorize, social skills, stress control and solve problems.
