Burns & McDonnell Staff Structural Engineer - Bridges (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
The Staff Structural Engineer will work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians on the analysis, design, and plan production for structural projects, and primarily bridge projects.
Perform a variety of structural bridge design tasks, including for geometrics and layout, steel and concrete superstructures, foundations of all types, bridge hydraulics, bridge inspection and load rating, construction engineering, specifications and cost estimates.
Produce bridge construction plans within desired schedule and budget. Coordinate detailing with CADD technicians. Provide plan checking with a high degree of accuracy.
Make independent decisions on engineering problems and select appropriate structural solutions that are cost effective and constructible.
Work within a project team to share the workload and ensure high-quality deliverables for our clients.
Perform field inspections and reports as needed.

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, with an emphasis in structural engineering. Master's degree with an emphasis in structural engineering is preferred and may be substituted for 1 year experience.
Minimum of 3 years related experience, on a variety of bridge projects.
Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or on track to take the PE exam is preferred. On track to take the licensed Structural Engineer (SE) exam is desirable.
Strong attention to detail, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently, methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Experience designing bridge projects using AASHTO LRFD, or other LRFD references.
Computer skills including structural analysis programs such as OpenBridge, RISA, MDX, HEC-RAS or equivalent.
Experience with CADD software such as Bentley MicroStation.
