Burns & McDonnell Transportation Director in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

The Transportation Director is responsible for the managerial direction and overall leadership of the multiple departments of the Kansas City region’s Transportation Global Practice. This includes supporting and executing Burns & McDonnell’s mission, principles, and the global practice (GP) vision, values, and objectives. Development of market specific business strategies, long-term client relationships and promoting a successful team-oriented environment is required. This leader will work closely with the Transportation GP General Manager and lead the offices with integrity and passion in a manner consistent with our mission, vision, and values.

  • Ensure compliance with company, site, and office safety policies.

  • Responsible for defining the overall business strategy to achieve the KCM offices financial business plan and Global Practice objectives.

  • Provide leadership to the team; oversee assignments and activities of departments ensuring efficient and cost-effective utilization of employee-owners.

  • Understanding (expertise a plus) of alternative project delivery in the transportation marketplace, such as experience with design-build, CMAR, CMGC and/or EPC delivery.

  • Responsible for ensuring staffing levels and assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.

  • Responsible for ensuring that Department Managers and Section Managers have the necessary resources to successfully meet client's expectations and project deliverables.

  • Responsible for identifying, directing and implementing business strategies for the Transportation practice, including operational, marketing, pricing, sales and customer retention strategies.

  • Lead sales and marketing activities.

  • Work with department managers and section managers to identify opportunities and manage team efforts for submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations and related activities.

  • Manage sales and marketing efforts for engineering and construction (with CDB) projects.

  • Manage the development of department tools and workflows to increase efficiency in planning, design, and project execution.

  • Provide senior level sales & marketing, project management and technical expertise, input and evaluation on opportunities and projects.

  • Develop annual business plans in coordination with Global Practice leadership and achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.Manage office budget and expenditure of funds, closely coordinated with the Global Practice leadership.

  • Present monthly financial information for KCM operation to GP leadership, including forecasts.

  • Coordinate and support Regional Office (RO) GP leaders to reinforce GP’s vision and values, quality control and resource coordination efforts.

  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for department managers/direct reports.

  • Provide overall leadership and guidance to the Kansas City transportation team.

  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to employee-owners.

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program. A minimum of 15 years relevant industry experience. Licensed Professional Engineer preferred, not required.

  • Advanced experience in client and business development.

  • Advanced experience in project management, contract negotiations, project planning, scheduling, team coordination & communication, budgeting, and client management.

  • Advanced facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated success estimating and/or profit margins in completed projects.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Advanced knowledge of people management, project management & sales methodologies.
