Burns & McDonnell Water Systems Section Manager - Water (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri
Burns & McDonnell's growing Water Practice is in search of a Section Manager responsible for the direction and leadership of the Kansas City Section of the Systems Department within the Water Global Practice.
Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by senior management:
Advocating for safety within the group.
Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of System Engineering staff. Manage staff workload and productivity in support of projects.
Recruit, develop, and retain staff.
Communicate policies, procedures, and goals of department to staff.
Serve as the technical and/or design advisor.
Provide senior-level engineering, designing, and specification preparing guidance and evaluation on projects.
Develop standards and guidelines that are in accordance with Burns & McDonnell's quality and standards for the department.
Review and conduct employee performance appraisals (90 days, mid-year, and annual performance appraisal, coaching sessions, etc.).
Lead the efforts for developing engineering, designing, and specification standards for the department.
Create training opportunities for the department. Ensure the opportunities are in line with the development of the team/individuals.
Assists the engineering teams in the prioritization and implementation of projects.
Support diversity initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or other engineering from an accredited program.
Minimum 5 years related professional experience.
Demonstrates understanding of the Water GP’s project delivery methods specifically as it relates to Water System projects (design-bid-build, design-build, EPC, etc.).
Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership skills; the ability to effectively mentor and provide career and technical guidance, particularly to entry-level staff.
Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
Experience with the infrastructure and components related to water distribution, sewer collection, and/or stormwater conveyance. Proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Licensed Professional Engineer highly preferred.
