Burns & McDonnell Water Systems Section Manager - Water (Kansas City) in Kansas City, Missouri

Description

Burns & McDonnell's growing Water Practice is in search of a Section Manager responsible for the direction and leadership of the Kansas City Section of the Systems Department within the Water Global Practice.

  • Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by senior management:

  • Advocating for safety within the group.

  • Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of System Engineering staff. Manage staff workload and productivity in support of projects.

  • Recruit, develop, and retain staff.

  • Communicate policies, procedures, and goals of department to staff.

  • Serve as the technical and/or design advisor.

  • Provide senior-level engineering, designing, and specification preparing guidance and evaluation on projects.

  • Develop standards and guidelines that are in accordance with Burns & McDonnell's quality and standards for the department.

  • Review and conduct employee performance appraisals (90 days, mid-year, and annual performance appraisal, coaching sessions, etc.).

  • Lead the efforts for developing engineering, designing, and specification standards for the department.

  • Create training opportunities for the department. Ensure the opportunities are in line with the development of the team/individuals.

  • Assists the engineering teams in the prioritization and implementation of projects.

  • Support diversity initiatives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or other engineering from an accredited program.

  • Minimum 5 years related professional experience.

  • Demonstrates understanding of the Water GP’s project delivery methods specifically as it relates to Water System projects (design-bid-build, design-build, EPC, etc.).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

  • Strong leadership skills; the ability to effectively mentor and provide career and technical guidance, particularly to entry-level staff.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Experience with the infrastructure and components related to water distribution, sewer collection, and/or stormwater conveyance. Proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Licensed Professional Engineer highly preferred.
