Burns & McDonnell Assistant Environmental Scientist in La Jolla, California
Conduct or coordinate work on a variety of environmental projects in California, as well as research and draft environmental assessments relative to requirements of CEQA, NEPA, and other relevant environmental regulations. Take on progressive project responsibilities under Environmental Managers.
A typical career path for an entry level environmental scientist would include a variety of assignments, such as the following:
Drafting sections of technical reports for state and federal processes, such aspreparation of California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documentationand National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) andHabitat Conservation Plans, Mitigation Monitoring Plans, and other Environmental Assessments.
Assist in preparing a wide variety of permitting applications such as air, land use and biological resources permitting.
Support site selection studies/feasibility studies and alternatives assessments..
Responsibilities include environmental site assessments; and report and permit writing.
Work will mainly consist of report/permit preparation with the possibility of occasional field work and travel.
Assist in conducting environmental compliance audits.
Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
Support GIS staff in preparation of technical reports and maps.
Support preparation of proposals.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree in environmental management, environmental science, environmental planning, ecology, or related field.
Zero (0) to four (4) years of professional experience.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written & verbal communication skills required.
Previous consulting experience related to environmental permitting and compliance and audits, and report writing strongly preferred.
Proficient computer skills. Ability to develop project management skills.
Familiar with California plants and animals.
Knowledge of CEQA and NEPA preferred.
Basic knowledge of the environmental permitting process.
Basic knowledge of GPS and working in the ArcGIS desktop environment.
