Description

The Technical Director is responsible for the managerial leadership and direction a specific engineering disciplined services, Global Practice project execution of strategic business initiatives, client strategy and development of the team within EMEA. The Technical Director will lead the team/project elements dynamically and profitably based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Manage development and execution of the overall civil and structural team with EMEA in line with project strategic business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.

  • Provide direction and support business development efforts in identifying and vetting prospective clients and projects. Responsible for business development activities aligning with business goals.

  • Provide leadership to the civil & structural team; direct and coordinate the Department ensuring efficient and cost-effective staff utilization.

  • Manage all civil & structural elements in GFS within EMEA-related business development efforts.

  • Oversee the development of department tools and workflows to increase efficiency in project execution for the Department.

  • Direct oversight and management of Project budget and expenditure of funds.

  • Achieve stated targets and standards for Project financial performance.

  • Present monthly financial information to leadership, including project revenue forecasts.

  • Support strategies for cross-selling engineering services across the organization.

  • Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of Regional Office project management development, quality control and resource coordination.

  • Safety First leadership within the team and the business, with specific responsibility for CDM compliance in design.

  • Oversight of engineering project management (engineering only and EPC projects), including where there are conflicting deadlines between multiple projects and bids in concurrent delivery.

  • Accountability for performance of engineering project delivery against budget, schedule, and expected standards.

  • Driving of Value Engineering within projects. Performance appraisal and development of design managers and engineering section/department managers.

  • Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.

  • Responsible for interpreting the organization's policies, purposes, and goals to staff.

  • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.

  • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution and 10 years of related professional experience required

  • Qualified membership of the relevant professional body, e.g., ICE, IET.

  • Expert at managing projects, including proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.

  • Knowledge of technical standards and client specifications is highly desirable.

  • IT literate, with good knowledge of using Microsoft Office applications.

  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools, including the use of scheduling tools and systems.

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, planning, and analytical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Great ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Pro-active in building knowledge and understanding of the industry.

  • Ability to make an effective and collaborative contribution to the team through sharing knowledge, promoting ideas, and valuing the contribution of all team members.
