Burns & McDonnell Staff Environmental Scientist (Madison, WI) in Madison, Wisconsin

Description

The Staff Environmental Scientist will perform environmental and siting studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various types of projects, including high-voltage transmission line routing, power generation construction activities and water treatment facilities.

  • Conduct field surveys, assessments and collect project-related data for analysis in environmental impact projects.

  • Prepare environmental reports, environmental impact statements and transmission line routing studies.

  • Collect GIS data for analysis, conversion and migration.

  • Compile GIS data for map production in accordance with standards and industry best practices.

  • Perform environmental site investigations, support erosion control efforts and subsurface soil sampling.

  • Conduct and file environmental compliance audits.

  • Prepare a wide variety of permitting applications such as air, land use and cultural resources permitting.

  • Lead site selection studies and preparation of related National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program and 4 years performing environmental and permitting studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects Required or

  • Master Degree in Environmental Science or a related natural science degree from an accredited program and 3 years performing environmental and permitting studies, preparing permitting applications and analyzing environmental data for various environmental impact projects Required

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental site assessment methods.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of environmental compliance and compliance audits.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the environmental permitting process.

  • Experience using GPS and working in the ArcGIS desktop environment.

  • Must be proficient in the use of computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  • Valid driver's license Required
