The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations and redevelopments on a variety of projects including process, corporate, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government and military facilities. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs.

Role includes:

  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.

  • Perform mechanical and plumbing design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion.

  • Design mechanical components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.

  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects including, but not limited to: process facilities, industrial facilities, airports, educational institutions, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.

  • Update drawings to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.

  • Determine project scope, schedule, and budget.

  • Assisting clients with planning facility improvements for mechanical, plumbing, and/or associated controls aspects of projects.

  • Compile information for client presentations and lead mechanical discussion during design Charrette and client review meetings.

  • Lead the mechanical project team to meet designated schedule and budget and provide quality deliverables including drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations.

  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.

  • Successfully communicate and correspond with internal design resources and external personnel and clients.

  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for the design of power, process, pipeline, industrial, airports, commercial, and governmental and military facilities.

  • May perform project or design management duties.

  • May perform field inspections.

  • May perform business development duties.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.

  • Minimum 7 years related experience, preferably consulting. Completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

  • PE license in Mechanical Engineering

  • LEED AP BD C is preferred or a desire to obtain accreditation

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong presentation skills.

  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Strong computer skills include Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • This position will be performing Federal related project work for Burns & McDonnell's clients. A qualified applicant must have the ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access authorization to the clients' facilities.
