Burns & McDonnell Electrical Drafting Technician in Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota


Burns & McDonnell’s Minneapolis-St. Paul regional office (Bloomington, MN) is looking for an Electrical Drafting Technician to revise and prepare 2D & 3D drawings on a variety of building/facilities-related projects. These projects encompass building structures for the Department of Defense, Airports and Aviation, Aircraft Fueling, Universities, Military Reserve centers, and others.

The Electrical Drafting Technician will work on an integrated design team within our Aviation & Federal Global Practice to perform the following duties:

  • Using Revit and AutoCAD, assist in the planning and preparing of detailed drawings for building lighting systems, power systems, and low-voltage data and security systems.

  • Coordinating with other disciplines

  • This position is responsible for revising existing drawings and preparing drawings of basic components from verbal or written instructions or detailed sketches.

  • This position successfully plots drawings; learns and follows company and client drafting standards and procedures; learns the practices of the electrical engineering discipline.

Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field and one year of related experience or associate's degree and two years’ related experience or three years’ progressive detailing and design experience.

  • Basic understanding of design software; Revit and AutoCAD experience preferred.

  • Basic knowledge in electrical design, calculations and standards is a plus.

  • Basic knowledge in the theory and practices of electrical discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the assigned discipline; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with others (Project Managers, Engineers and Designers) in a multi-discipline project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish objectives.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
