Burns & McDonnell Senior Environmental Scientist - Environmental Studies (Minneapolis) in Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota

Burns & McDonnell’s Minneapolis regional office is looking for a Senior Environmental Scientist to work closely with multi-disciplinary project teams and serve as a task lead to support environmental permitting, impact assessment, and due diligence efforts for a variety of market sectors, including transmission, oil and gas, carbon capture/sequestration, and renewable energy. The Senior Environmental Scientist will work with the office’s environmental studies and cultural and natural resources teams to:

  • Evaluate regulatory requirements for federal, state, and local environmental permits/​consultations

  • Coordinate with survey teams and subconsultants to manage environmental and cultural surveys, habitat evaluations for threatened and endangered species, and/or evaluation of other potentially sensitive resources

  • Prepare federal, state, and local permit applications

  • Conduct permit compliance tasks and agency consultations

  • Manage preparation of environmental documents in support of the National Environmental Policy Act

  • Provide quality assurance/quality control review of deliverables

  • Manage and track project status and budget

  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related program is required

  • 8 years of relevant environmental evaluation or consulting experience is required (10 years preferred).

  • Experience in completing field investigations, wetland assessments, associated permitting, analyzing GIS data; preparing environmental assessments and permitting documents, technical writing

  • Demonstrated knowledge of wetlands and aquatic resources

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Section 404, 401 and Section 10 permitting required

  • Professional Wetland Scientist certification is a plus

  • Environmental Resource Reviewer Certification is a plus

  • Knowledge of state and local permitting processes in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, and Texas

  • Experience with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission-jurisdictional projects and permitting

  • Working knowledge of GIS support software and analysis

  • Ability to clearly communicate both verbal and written technical information

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

  • Proficient in computer software (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Ability to work up to 20% in the field
