Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for a Network Design Engineer in our Boston office to serve as a technical lead forMPLS networkdeployment projects. TheNetwork Design Engineerwill be responsible for engineering design and technical oversight of MPLS network deployment projects. Major responsibilities for theNetwork Design Engineerwill include:
- Design MPLS networks over dark fiber, DWDM, and/or microwave utilizing client standards or developing new standards. Project deliverables may include:
o Network topology plans
o Network design reports
o Routing protocol selection
o LSP design
o IP address planning
o Naming/numbering standards
o Capacity planning for applications
o Quality of service (QoS) implantation
o Network synchronization strategy
o Router security design
o Application security design
o Application cutover plans
o Circuit records
o IP address assignments
o Router configurations
o Lab and production test plans
Identify and troubleshoot network performance degradations.
Provide support to customers in field of expertise.
Assist in the creation of a MPLS deployment training program.
Execute complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Identify, communicate and resolve issues on projects as needed.
Work in multi-vendor environments (Nokia, Cisco, Check Point) with typical project requirements to integrate multiple vendors.
Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Work with the project manager to establish project schedule and lead the engineering team to meet deadlines.
Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Perform design quality reviews.
Regularly meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.
Prepare proposals and assist in presentations.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer or other related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited program.
Must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience on network design and optimization. Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
Professional Engineering (PE) registration preferred.
Previous consulting experience.
Previous utility company experience.
