Burns & McDonnell Offshore Wind Permitting Senior Business Development Leader (Environmental Services) in Newton, Massachusetts

Description

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a motivated self-starter to help continue the growth of our Offshore Wind environmental and permitting practice. The most successful candidate would have demonstrated experience working with BOEM developing and supporting multiple projects from a natural resources and environmental permitting perspective as well as managing and completing independent projects (Site Assessment Plans as well as Construction and Operations Plans).

The position will have projects and activities which may include business development, proposal development, marketing, recruiting of technical staff, developing permitting strategies and schedules, contracts, schedules, and budgets. The position will report to the National VP of Sales and Marketing and will provide leadership and support for our national footprint in the renewable offshore market.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Building an environmental offshore team across the U.S.

  • Developing and Executing sales and marketing plans

  • Management of client accounts

  • Overseeing the development of proposals and identifying the strategic approach to winning work

  • Developing permit need assessments and permit strategies for major development projects

  • Assessing risk associated with permit strategies and agency interactions

  • Coordinating with our other Global Practices and various Regional Manager’s to meet client needs

  • Assisting clients with the development of required documents to support of BOEM NEPA review and approval

  • Supporting development of permit amendments, reports, regulatory submittals and data analysis

  • Managing the preparation of documents or technical documents, as needed

  • The position will also aide in client development, maintenance, and management; proposal preparation and sales presentations; participation in contract negotiations; project planning, budgeting, and scheduling; and establishing critical project objectives and performances.

  • Developing and increasing customer awareness of the environmental capabilities in the offshore space within Burns & McDonnell by continually contacting new clients and maintaining existing client relations

  • Managing new, non-traditional, and compelling solutions to a customer's stated project scope of work to differentiate Burns & McDonnell

  • Managing new clients and further develop existing offshore clients through assessments of marketing opportunities and target clients to support sales and marketing strategies

  • Managing the strategic planning and development of sales and marketing plans and activities related to trade shows, trade journal advertisements, and customer relationship functions.

  • Review and identify trending ideas by researching industry and related events, publications, and announcements; and tracking individual contributors and accomplishments

  • Screen potential business deals by analyzing market strategies, deal requirements, potential, and financials; evaluating options; resolving internal priorities; recommending equity investments

  • Close new business deals by coordinating requirements, developing, and negotiating contracts, and integrating contract requirements with business operations

  • Developing negotiating strategies and positions by studying integration of new opportunities with company strategies and operations; examining risks and potentials; estimating partners' needs and goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or graduate degree in a natural resources field, environmental science, or related field from an accredited program.

  • Minimum 13 years related experience related professional experience in marketing, business development or sales promotion environment, experience in the A/E/C industry preferred.

  • Must have ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of industry, government, and public contracts on project-related matters.

  • Previous experience with offshore wind projects and the BOEM NEPA process highly preferred.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Previous experience developing and delivering proposals, proposal strategies, business development and/or pursuit strategies.    

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Prior experience with Federal and State siting and permitting is required.

COMPENSATION RANGE:

$200,000-300,000

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in accordance with the New York Public Act, An Act Concerning the Disclosure of Salary Range for Vacant Positions and the Connecticut Public Act 21-30, An Act Concerning the Disclosure of Salary Range for Vacant Positions. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
