Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity in our Transmission and Distribution Group for a Civil Engineer. The Civil Engineer will work within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable design of civil/structural components of Substation and Transmission Facilities in accordance with applicable industry codes and standards. Responsibilities may include but not limited to:
Delivering accurate and thorough designs of a variety of complex structures that will meet industry and/ client standards and codes as applicable.
Perform structural engineering quality reviews of peers and / or sub-consultants.
Performing hand calculations applying proficiency in civil/structural codes and standards such as AISC, ACI, ASCE 113, CBC, IEEE, NESC and others.
Design of high and extra-high voltage (69-500kV) transmission lines using PLS-CADD.
Prepare construction documents including plan and profile drawings, structure loading trees, and foundation assembly drawings.
Maintaining and developing good working relationships with Clients.
Monitoring and maintaining project commitments on design projects and coordinating design activities within the different disciplines of the Department.
Prepare specifications and project design criteria.
Provide field support during construction.
Other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will be able to build and maintain strong relationships with clients as well as provide technical leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members.
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from accredited program. 3 years related transmission line design or substation design experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience). Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Experience in scheduling and budgeting. Ability to work in a team environment. PE license required. Consulting or utility experience preferred.
