Burns & McDonnell Staff Electrical Engineer in Orlando, Florida

Description

Responsible for preparation of distribution voltage substation construction documents; provides short term field support during construction; solves electrical engineering problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria; devises new approaches to problems encountered. Routes, designs, and executes distribution line projects; performs distribution planning assignments; executes power flow, transfer capability, and economic dispatch associated with distribution congestion management scenarios; performs power system planning and operations including: transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis. Prepares proposals and engineering/project cost estimates; prepares calculations and equipment specifications; assesses feasibility or soundness of proposed applications when data is insufficient or testing is advisable; coordinates departmental or divisional project studies, reports or project design assignments; progressive engineering design and modeling responsibilities; provides leadership, guidance and instruction to less experienced staff members; and regularly meets and corresponds with clients or outside personnel.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field plus 5 years experience in the job offered, as an engineer in the power industry, or a related role or position. Experience must also include: four (4) years of experience with Volt Var Optimization utilizing the CYME software suite for medium voltage (4.8-kV – 13.8-kV) distribution modeling; experience modeling analog and status points for automation devices reclosers, capacitor banks, and fault indicators in SCADA databases utilizing DMS software; and experience working with one or more US utilities.
