Burns & McDonnell Technical Advisory Consultant - Utility Consulting (Portland) in Portland, Maine
Execute assignments in the area of electric power system studies involving planning and operations, including analyses of power flow, transient stability, short circuit, electromagnetic transients, reliability, and economic dispatch.
Plan, conduct, and coordinate work in the selection, adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria for transmission planning studies.
Perform electric power and transmission planning assignments which involve conventional engineering practices but may involve some complex features.
Execute power flow, transfer capability, and economic dispatch associated with transmission congestion management scenarios.
Perform power system planning and operations including transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis.
Perform necessary North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), regional assessments, following established requirements and standards.
Perform electrical risk assessment processes and procedures utilizing standard techniques.
Perform transmission planning assignments utilizing power system analysis software.
Assist with problem-solving fundamental electrical power planning engineering issues and be able to communicate solutions with other departments.
Coordinate departmental and divisional project studies and report preparation assignments.
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a directly related field plus three (3) years of system planning experience in electrical/power engineering.
Must have 1 year of experience in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):
Transmission planning studies including power flow (steady state and contingency) analysis
Transmission planning studies including short circuit and voltage analysis
Transmission planning studies including generator interconnection analysis
Applicable engineering design and power system analysis computer software systems, including: PTI PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, or ASPEN.
Must have 6 months of experience in each of the following (experience may be gained concurrently):
Transient stability analysis.
Transfer capability analysis.
Numerous power regions of the country and independent system operators.
Power system planning reliability standards, requirements, policies, and operating procedures.
Guiding a team of engineers or analysts in regards to transmission system planning studies.
Interacting and collaborating with and/or presenting complex projects and scenarios to clients.
Conducting multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.
Will accept a Master's in Electrical Engineering or directly related field plus two (2) years of planning experience in electrical/power engineering. Experience may be gained before, during, or after issuance of advanced degree. 5% domestic travel for business meetings.
40 hours/week. 9am - 5pm.
