Burns & McDonnell Assistant Interior Designer/Space Planner - Aviation & Federal (Chesapeake / Roanoke) in Roanoke, Virginia

Description

The Assistant Interior Designer/Space Planner will assist with preparing designs, editing specifications, and preparing conceptual estimates for interior work, repair, and/or renovation of government, airport, and commercial related facilities. This position is available in either our Chesapeake or Roanoke office.

  • Assists in preparation of designs, quantity calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings for interiors of aviation and/or federal facilities.

  • Performs interior design assignments to meet project deliverables.

  • Assists in compiling data, provides elementary design computations, assist with preparation of internal design plans and renderings.

  • Assists with furniture purchasing and reconfiguration.

  • Assists in researching interior design products to make recommendations to the manager.

  • Assists with color, finish, and material research and selection.

  • Assists with recommending new ideas, formulas and methods.

  • Assists in construction administration activities through site visits and review of payment applications.

  • Assists with maintaining conformance with building standards, established architectural practices, and applicable building codes.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Interior Design from a CIDA accredited program or similar field is required.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic knowledge in AutoCAD & Microstation.

  • Experience with BIM-Revit, Sketchup, and Photoshop.

  • Basic knowledge in Interior Design specifications, calculations, industry standards as well as visual, written and oral skills.

  • Working knowledge in the use of computers for making architectural drawings, calculations and 3-D visual simulations.

  • Basic understanding of architectural principles and theory associated with project design and construction document production.

  • Valid driver's license required. In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
