Burns & McDonnell LTE EPC Engineer in Saint Louis, Missouri
This position will be responsible for providing work direction, performance management, and overall management for technical employees consisting of both engineers and technicians focused on designing and maintaining a mission critical mobile carrier network. This position is expected to have practical EPC deployment and design experience and provide hands-on support when required. The architect will be responsible for the design and deployment of a 4G\5G combination core. An in-depth knowledge of 5G cloud core and service-based architecture including network slicing, containerized microservice based cloud architecture, and control and user plane separation is required. The architect is also responsible for solution lifecycle management and experience in maintaining a mission critical LTE system.
Responsible for development of product requirements, feature requirements, systems and performance analysis, conduct deep-dive sessions on Openstack/Kubernetes VM and Container based virtualization strategies.
Responsible for development of product requirements, feature requirements, systems and performance analysis, conduct deep-dive customer sessions on OAMP, FCAPS technologies and protocols.
Analyzing the requirements, converting them into system requirements and capturing of detail design for the development team.
Responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting issues reported from customer labs and production.
Provides expert technical support and creates compelling technical and commercial solutions in order to help achieve the assigned sales goals and business objectives.
Translates and communicates complex technical design considerations between the Vender team and Utility network
Manage the overall engineering design, implementation, and second level support of the LTE 4G/5G core network including security and server networks.
Make independent decisions on core network related design, security policies and procedures based on budget impact, system utilization, and network security for optimal efficiency.
Develop, define, and refine processes and procedures for making network changes to services impacting core network equipment.
Actively participate in negotiations with vendors for new equipment and services.
Work with vendors on the high level and low level designs and approval responsibility for those designs.
Coordinate with program and project management to keep project on track.
Develop, maintain, and provide risk assessment tools/techniques and perform studies for determining the range of risk associated with various projects.
Provide program management with risk/cost assessment analysis of potential features and services.
Develop, implement, and maintain management tools that will maximize system reliability.
Bachelor's degree in electrical, computer or other related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
10 years relevant work experience in LTE or RF / Core Network systems is required.
Technical expertise with wireless LTE networks, EPC and security design experience is required.
A working knowledge of and the ability to understand, risk assessment, and engineering related to mobile carrier 4G/5G networks, including emerging technologies, is required.
A thorough, practical knowledge of operations and maintenance of mobile carrier 4G/5G equipment is required.
A thorough understanding of APN controls, UE attachment process and all other LTE signaling.
A complete understanding of the 5G Network Functions and controls and the interaction with a 4G RAN. All distributed network functions, containerized systems and Kubernetes.
At least ten years relevant experience in mobile carrier networks is required.
Must possess the ability to solve complex problems, demonstrate the ability to conduct strategic analysis in order to make autonomous business decisions with time constraints.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to work with internal and external clients, across departments, and with vendors at all levels.
