Job Information

Burns & McDonnell Networks, Integration & Automation Department Manager in Saint Louis, Missouri

Description

This position is responsible for the managerial direction of the Networks, Integration & Automation department in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Global Practice in the St. Louis, MO office. This position will provide leadership and direction to grow the department in a profitable manner based upon Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service. Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties assigned by senior management:

  • Advocating for safety within the department.

  • Recruiting, retaining, training, developing, and mentoring department staff.

  • Working with project managers to forecast resource needs.

  • Coordinating work for the department.

  • Collaborating with T&D leadership, T&D department managers, and Burns & McDonnell EE department managers.

  • Reviewing staff performance (90-day and annual performance appraisals, coaching sessions, etc.) to ensure quality and efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff while maintaining billable goals.

  • Advocating for quality and ensuring that the corporate and T&D quality initiatives are implemented, including coordinating with the appropriate teams to assign quality control reviewers.

  • Identifying training needs and support training programs as needed.

  • Interpreting and establishing policies, procedures, and strategic goals for the department.

  • Supporting the development of the NIA business plan.

  • Determining and tracking departmental objectives and requirements.

  • Leading progress on department related projects/initiatives.

  • Developing standards, tools, and guidelines to increase efficiency of designs and project execution while advocating quality.

  • Providing input into areas of concern and direction to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.

  • Assisting with and Networks, Integration & Automation related proposal efforts.

  • Supporting diversity initiatives.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or other engineering discipline from accredited program. Minimum 7 years related professional experience. Other qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated technical ability in telecommunications engineering design (networks, fiber, RF, etc.).

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Previous personnel management is preferred.
