Description
The Section Manager is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the section and resources within a global practice or regional office. This includes executing projects, supporting and executing business strategy, developing high performance teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Section Manager will lead the section in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.
The primary focus of the position will be to lead and develop the core Solar business line in Project Controls.
Use industry Project Controls knowledge and market inputs to support solar offerings.
Support the development and maintainance of effective proposal material from a Project Controls perspective that supports construction management in the Solar Market.
Collaborate on growth planning and forecasting with the Construction Department Manager and Project Controls Department Manager in the solar market.
Provide positive and visible participation in relevant industry associations.
Support the identification and pursuit of the solar market construction opportunities across the United States.
Participate and help drive sales for solar EPC and construction opportunities
Work with Business Development teams to provide Project Controls input on solar opportunities.
Maintain and leverage industry network to identify and pre-position for upcoming solar opportunities
Support and drive Project Controls for solar construction and EPC pursuits with various locations and engineering groups including “go/no-go” decisions, win strategies, proposal staffing, development of pricing, contract terms and conditions, and risk-review
Adhere to company’s safety programs, trainings, and policies, as well as promote and manage the Safety & Health performance of project team members and subcontractors.
Position reports to Project Controls Department Manager and supports solar Project Managers and be responsible for the oversight of construction activities and the successful execution of multiple solar related projects simultaneously.
Participate in solar project planning, scheduling, estimating, cost development, and establishing critical project objectives.
Support the Project Controls Department Manager on ensuring your Project Controls direct reports staff levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining financial goals.
Direct all solar section cost engineering functions, including cost forecasting, cost control, change management and cost analysis.
Lead solar section planning, and scheduling functions, including schedule development, control, analysis, and ongoing recommendations for improvement.
Prepare various solar Project Controls plans and reports, financial summaries, and related activities for Senior Management
Support the solar project team in achieving targets and standards for financial performance.
Prepare and present solar work load and monthly financial reports to the Project Controls Department Manager and applicable project managers.
Provide leadership and guidance to your direct report staff.
Support the Project Controls Department Manager on recruitment, development, training and retention of your direct report staff.
Under the general guidance of the Project Controls Department Manager set your direct report staff’s goals, monitor performance progress, perform year-end evaluations, and support the setting of career path goals.
Work with and support the Project Controls Department Manager on interpreting policies, purposes and goals of your direct report staff.
Anticipate and solve complex Project Controls problems
Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.
Work with and support the Project Controls Department Manager on diversity initiatives, including establishing and maintain a culture of integrity, character, and high values within the section
Support the Project Controls Department Manager in the developing standardized Project Controls procedures and processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field from an accredited program is required
Minimum 8 years related professional experience in Project Controls
Minimum 2 years managing smaller Project Controls teams
Experience must include Project Controls management on EPC projects
Minimum of 2 years of field construction experience
Must have experience leading, managing, and developing a successful project controls team
Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with the Burns & McDonnell Senior Management team
Must have experience in conceptual planning
Excellent verbal/written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
Must possess strong understanding of industry standard Project Controls philosophies/skills and a strategic perspective.
Must be proficient in Oracle Primavera P6 or at least have a strong understanding of CPM scheduling.
Must be proficient in Ecosys or at least have a strong understanding of project cost forecasting.
Must have a strong understanding of the concepts of Earned Value Management.
Must be proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point).
