Burns & McDonnell Senior Structural Engineer in Saint Louis, Missouri

Description

The Burns & McDonnell St. Louis office in Chesterfield, MO is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer to apply advanced technical expertise on engineering, procurement, and construction projects of processing facilities throughout the refining, midstream and chemical market sectors. This position offers challenging, yet rewarding work with significant project variety at a successful, growing office. These projects encompass industry-type facilities involving various types and sizes of equipment as well as piping and electrical components. The Senior Structural Engineer will use state of the art software in an integrated design team who are all working for a common goal to make our clients successful.   • Lead in the planning and execution of projects involving numerous disciplines in a team environment. Tasks include managing scope, developing budgets, planning and executing scheduled activities to facilitate the successful construction of a project and maintaining high quality standards by way of applying company quality procedures and reviews.

  • Provide oversight for the development of structural calculations and detailed drawings for the design of various components of oil, gas and chemical plants. Designs include foundations for process equipment, pipe racks, process structures and other miscellaneous types of supports. In addition, design will include structural steel for pipe racks, process structures, and other miscellaneous types of supports.

  • Provide oversight for performing design for modules supporting equipment and/or piping and cable tray which require analysis in varying stages, including lifting, transportation and final placement.

  • Provide oversight for the analysis of existing structures to understand the structural adequacy for new loads imposed and may also involve the design of strengthening of these structures.

  • Assist in developing construction cost estimates to clients by way of performing preliminary design to facilitate development of material take offs that are used to build the project total installed cost.

  • Provide mentoring and guidance to assistant and staff level engineers and designers.

  • Assist in directing and collaborating with the structural detailing and design staff for a project, incorporating schedules, budgets and project criteria into design and deliverables to meet project goals.

  • Accountable for completion of work developed by structural project team.

  • Collaborate on and plan work involving civil and architectural scope.

  • Maintain 3D model accuracy through the duration of the project.

  • Consult with project staff or clients to obtain data and information relative to project criteria.

  • Execute projects while working in a team environment. Collaboration amongst numerous disciplines, office and project management is essential.

  • Experience with RISA 3D and associated design modules (i.e. RISA Foundation, RISA Connection) is not required but highly encouraged.

  • Use 3D software to collaborate between disciplines and communicate project progress to clients.

  • Learn and successfully apply company, client, industry and project standards and procedures.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of assigned and related disciplines.

  • Successfully communicate and correspond with internal design resources and external clients and personnel.

  • May perform field inspections

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 7 years of structural engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Structural or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering a plus.

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.

  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7).Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.
