Burns & McDonnell’s regional office in St. Louis is looking for a Staff Mechanical Engineer to specialize in the design and applications of mechanical systems in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work in our suburban Chesterfield office on an established team within our Oil, Gas & Chemical division (Global Practice) and perform the following duties:
Take on Mechanical Engineer responsibilities with the conceptual studies, detailed design, field installation, and construction support of equipment, including pumps, compressors, pressure vessels and internals, tanks, heat exchangers, fired equipment, cooling towers, and third party designed and packaged equipment.
Prepare mechanical equipment and packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, RFQ’s, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings, and data. Interfaces with suppliers, clients, other engineering disciplines, detailers/designers.
Ensure effective communications with other engineering disciplines.
Ensure effective management of change.
Mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
Prepare construction/installation scopes of work for mechanical equipment.
Participate in the development of P&ID's, package specifications, construction specifications, project schedules, project budgets, and construction planning.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program and 3 years of applicable experience is required
Previous experience in the petrochemical and/or oil & gas industries preferred.
Experience with rotating equipment is a plus.
Completion of FE exam required, PE license preferred.
Must have familiarity with mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
Familiarity with MS Office, especially Excel.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Previous consulting experience preferred.
Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
Must be willing and eligible to obtain or currently hold a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
EPC project experience is preferred.
