Job Information

Burns & McDonnell Transmission & Distribution Operations Manager in Saint Louis, Missouri


The T&D Operations Manager, working with the Regional GP Manager, will provide overall operational leadership for the St. Louis Transmission and Distribution Global Practice.

Specific areas of responsibility include the following, with other duties as assigned by the Regional GP Manager:

  • Advocating for safety within the department.

  • Responsible for the quality of work within the department including the facilitation of best practices and continuous improvement.Work with the Quality Manager to develop and champion effective and efficient processes and procedures.Implement and follow corporate and global practice quality initiatives.

  • Assists in the development of Regional GP strategy including the development of the Business Plan.

  • Responsible for operations level collaboration strategy with other ROs and WHQ.

  • Responsible for reviewing resource requirements with other management and assist with obtaining the necessary resources.

  • Provide overall leadership to the team through strong communication, empowering of others, and servant leadership.

  • Provide administrative, supervisory and technical direction for T&D Engineering personnel; review or provide oversight of personnel performance (90-day and annual performance appraisals, coaching sessions, etc.) to obtain quality and efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff while maintaining billability goals.

  • Responsible for fostering a healthy and vibrant employee-owner culture within the team through the leverage of sound team-building practices, the promotion and administration of effective conflict resolution, the promotion of ownership mentality, a healthy work-life balance, and community engagement.

  • Advance, develop, and promote technology, tools, and work flows to increase efficiency of designs, proposals, specification development, and project execution.

  • Identify training needs and oversee the development and administration of necessary training programs.

  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.

  • Monitor progress on projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection to enhance achievement of project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.

  • Assist with and lead proposal efforts.

  • Recruit, develop and retain staff; mentor staff for division growth.

  • Facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with T&D leadership.

  • Recommend changes in basic structure and organization of the section to maximize the effective fulfillment of objectives assigned to it.

  • Advance and develop tools and work flows to increase efficiency of designs, specification development, and project execution.

  • Support diversity and community engagement initiatives.

  • All other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, design, or construction from an accredited program. Minimum 10 years related professional experience. Other qualifications include:

  • Candidates must possess a strong strategic perspective.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Previous personnel management is preferred.
