Burns & McDonnell Transportation Department Manager in Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Profile

Responsible for the managerial direction and overall leadership of the Burns & McDonnell Transportation Global practice located in the St. Louis area.

Responsible for executing the Global Practice’s Vision, Mission & Values in the St. Louis market. Responsibilities include: client/market development, sales, recruitment, employee-owner development, performance reviews and retention of the team. Must interpret policies, purposes, and goals of organization to staff.Will serve as technical advisor, provide senior-level input and evaluation on projects. Will demonstrate creativity, foresight and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems. Will determine program objectives and requirements, organize projects and develop standards and guidelines.Will representthe St. Louis office in transportation strategic planning team meetings and will identify target clients for the St. Louis area and surrounding regions.

Summary of key duties:

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Serve as account (client) manager for target clients.Take primary responsibility for ultimate delivery of services. Clients include DOT’s, local counties and municipalities, private clients and close coordination with other GP’s.Develop client service plans which includes vertical relationship plans for target client organizations.

  • Manage staff to the highest efficiency and strengths.Work with office leadership to build a multidisciplinary team to deliver transportation services to target clients.

  • Work with quality manager to oversee and enforce QA/QC plan standards.

  • One-on-one reviews and direct evaluation of staff capabilities.

  • Work with GP and RO management to set, monitor and achieve financial performance metrics.

  • Oversight of all new contract reviews. Pursuit and proposal management

  • Facilitate pursuit strategy and capture plan development to pre-sell projects before RFP release.Identify project opportunities early and facilitate go/no-go decisions in cooperation with the St. Louis office and transportation practice leadership.Lead and facilitate proposal development, based on client feedback and key win themes for project pursuits.Lead contract negotiation process for projects after selection.

  • Develop and implement project execution, quality and financial controls for the St. Louis office transportation projects.

  • Conduct routine project management training and champion employee development.

  • Assist with the growth of a successful transportation design-build practice.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management or related field from accredited program.

  • Minimum 7 years of related professional experience.Experience must include at least 3 years of successful management of projects, proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination. Consulting experience preferred.

  • Must have ability to deal effectively with a wide variety of government, industry, and public contracts on project-related matters.

  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills and ability to process and manage project budgets and financial data.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Professional Registration preferred, LEED accreditation a plus.

  • This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.

  • Must be capable of devising new approaches to problems encountered.
