Burns & McDonnell Assistant GIS Specialist in Wallingford, Connecticut
The Assistant Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist will assist in developing, updating, analyzing, and managing GIS data for a wide variety of professional services. This position will assist in GIS analysis, data development, data maintenance and data preparation for use in GIS applications and will regularly communicate project status to our customers, as customer service is a key component of the Assistant GIS Specialist position. The Assistant GIS Specialist will work closely within functional teams to deliver GIS data and GIS services to our clients, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer commitment, sense of urgency, and continuous improvement.
Assist with GIS mapping and data collection tasks
Assist in producing technical specifications, project approach, cost estimates and schedules
Utilize various software packages and information from various sources (MS Access databases, MS Excel spreadsheets and documents such as deeds, field notes etc.) to create GIS maps to support field personnel as well as for deliverables
Assist with the design of customized, in-house workflows using ModelBuilder, Python and FME
Assist with digital feature extraction from multiple data sources
Assist in evaluating GIS system needs and requirements to implement improved work methods
Assist with the georeferencing of raster and vector data
Assist in performing projections and transformations for project deliverables
Ideal candidates will have an undergraduate or graduate degree related to GIS or computer science and 1-3 years’ experience. Applicants must have a strong background working with geospatial data

Experience with some, or all, of the following is required:
ESRI ArcGIS suite of tools (10.x and/or Pro):
ArcGIS Desktop and extensions such as Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst
ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS
Converting and integrating data from multiple sources (CAD, paper maps, databases)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite
