Burns & McDonnell Transmission System Planning Project Manager in Wallingford, Connecticut

Description

The Transmission System Planning Project Manager should have a deep and broad base of knowledge regarding electric transmission systems and transmission system planning processes. The candidate will manage transmission planning studies consisting of power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, and economic dispatch associated with congestion management scenarios. The candidate will be responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating the staff assigned to the transmission planning studies. The candidate will perform work which involves conventional engineering practices, but may involve a variety of complex features in regards to electrical system power flows and stability. The candidate will be responsible for teaching and training less experienced engineers with regards to transmission planning studies and evaluations. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, advanced degree is a plus (MSEE, MBA, or PhD)

  • Minimum of seven years of experience with transmission system planning studies either working for or consulting to a transmission system owner

  • Ability to execute a transmission system planning study with support from other staff with little to no direction

  • Strong PSS/E software experience

  • PSLF software experience preferred

  • Strong computer skills using other industry software such as EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Promod.

  • Experience with at least three of the following transmission system planning analyses

  • Transient stability

  • Short circuit and voltage analysis

  • TPL compliance

  • Generator Interconnection

  • Harmonics Analysis

  • Production costing

  • NERC, FERC, and Regional requirements, policies, and procedures

  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in regards to transmission system planning studies

  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments

  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met

  • Effective Project Management skills

  • Ability to work with existing and new clients to identify new projects, articulate to the clients our ability to perform those projects, and translate that into the sale of consulting services

  • Willingness to cross sell other services offered by Burns & McDonnell outside the project manager’s core set of services

  • Willingness to negotiate with clients for new service agreements

  • Professional registration preferred
