Burns & McDonnell has an exciting opportunity in our Transmission and Distribution Group for an Assistant Electrical Engineer in our Washington D.C. office. The Assistant Electrical Engineer will support a variety of complex utility projects, including wireless networks (MPLS and LTE), supervisory control and data acquisition, and fiber optics.
Support design of telecommunications networks utilizing client standards or developing new standards.
Support project deliverables such as: bill of materials, specifications, yard layouts, equipment plans, sections and details, wiring diagrams, control building arrangements, DC calculations, cable lists, SCADA points lists, device configuration files, network architecture diagrams, channel and cutover
Support execution of complex assignments requiring the use of advanced tools and techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods.
Identify, communicate and support resolution of issues on projects as needed.
Work with the project manager to support project schedule and meet deadlines.
Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
Work closely with the project team to ensure deliverables and services are being provided to client’s satisfaction and that projects are following internal QA/QC guidelines.
Meet and correspond with clients or outside personnel to develop relationships with key client points of contact.

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program.
Or Bachelor of Science in Electrical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Master of Science degree in Engineering may be substituted for one year of experience.
Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) strongly preferred.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Involvement on campus or in the community.
Basic knowledge in standard electrical engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)
Basic computer skills include electrical analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD and BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e. without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.
