Responsibilities

  • Lead the process design and execution of water and wastewater treatment projects.

  • Perform day-to-day process technical work, project planning, and management of scope, schedule, and budget of projects.

  • Develop critical project objectives and goals to define success and measure performance.

  • Interact with project stakeholders on technical and execution matters.

  • Support client development and technical sales, proposal preparation, and technical presentations.

  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies as necessary to support projects.

  • Plan, organize, and communicate project technical and staffing needs to department management.

  • Mentor junior staff and lead/participate in training sessions to develop the technical expertise of the Industrial Water/Wastewater team.

  • Provide support for EPC delivery of water and wastewater projects alongside the Burns & McDonnell Construction/Design-Build group.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related degree (Environmental Engineering) from an ABET-accredited program.

  • Or Bachelor of Science in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

  • Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering a plus.

  • Minimum 7 years process engineering experience; EPC project experience preferred; hands-on experience in designing chemical, physical, and/or biological wastewater treatment systems; evaluating and selecting treatment technologies; working with equipment vendors, and leading the design of industrial water and/or wastewater treatment facilities preferred.

  • Have a track record of water/wastewater treatment design projects strongly preferred.

  • Have strong knowledge of water environment issues and wastewater characteristics strongly preferred.

  • Understand Front End Planning phases and the associated project deliverables strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with a variety of project execution styles and delivery methods, including EPC.

  • Knowledge of emerging contaminants and corresponding treatment technologies strongly preferred.

  • Abilities to apply in-depth and diversified knowledge of water and wastewater treatment principles and practices to a broad area of assignments strongly preferred.

  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with project teams and clients as well as strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrate technical leadership in the relevant market sectors, professional organizations, and publications.

  • Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.

  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of process design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).

  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Strong computer skills including process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.

  • Ability to travel.
